The Studio

The Process

How a Muse & Fur portrait moves from your photograph to your wall. The studio behind the work, and the choices we make along the way.

Why this exists

Pet portraits, reconsidered.

Most custom pet portraits are built for novelty. Your dog as a Renaissance king. Your cat dressed as an astronaut. The kind of thing that's fun for a week and a conversation piece for a month.

Muse & Fur was started for a different room. Restrained, single-style portraits made for the homes you've spent years curating. Not a costume. Not a scene. Just your pet, treated as a worthy subject and rendered with care.

From photo to wall

Five considered steps.

01

Send the photograph

Upload a clear photo of your pet at checkout. Natural light, eye-level, ears and chest visible. We accept the vast majority of photos, and we'll reach out if a different angle would serve the portrait better.

02

Specify the piece

Choose your size, frame finish in white, espresso, or matte black wood, and the background tone that suits your space. Each option is shown in real interiors before you decide.

03

We design

Our studio renders your pet in our consistent house style using modern digital tools, then reviews and refines each piece before it leaves the studio. The same restraint, the same considered finish, every time.

04

Printed & framed

Each portrait is printed on archival canvas built to last decades without fading, then mounted in a real-wood frame finished by hand. Not a poster, not a print-and-pop. A finished piece of art.

05

Doorstep to wall

Your portrait ships within days, packed with care, ready to hang. From the moment you order to the moment it's on your wall, expect about a week.

Materials & sustainability

Made with the right things.

Cotton-polyester canvas. A proprietary coating for color depth, longevity, and resistance to fading. Printed with Greenguard Gold-certified latex inks: non-toxic, non-hazardous, low-emission. What ends up on your wall is safe to live with for decades.

FSC-certified pine frames. Three finishes (white, espresso, matte black), each milled from Forest Stewardship Council-certified renewable forests. Sawtooth hanging hardware included.

Print-on-demand, by design. We don't carry inventory. Every piece is made when you order it, in the production facility closest to you. No warehouses, no overproduction, no excess waste. The sustainability argument most pet art brands quietly avoid making.

About the rendering

How we make portraits quickly, without making them cheap.

We use modern digital rendering tools to compose each portrait from your photograph. This is what allows us to ship in days rather than the four to six weeks a traditional illustrator would take, and it's what allows us to keep the price accessible.

Every piece is reviewed and refined by our studio before it goes to print. The materials, the framing, and the final piece on your wall are real and made by people who care about the outcome. The speed and the price are the benefit; the considered finish is the standard.

Common questions

Asked & answered.

How long does it take?

From order to delivery, expect about one week for standard portraits. Bespoke commissions through The Atelier take roughly two weeks.

What kind of photo works best?

Clear, well-lit photos taken at eye level with your pet's face, ears, and chest visible. Natural light is best. Avoid heavy filters, very dark photos, and shots where your pet is far away. We'll reach out if we need a different photo before we begin.

Are the portraits really hand-illustrated?

No, and we don't pretend they are. Each piece is rendered using modern digital tools in our studio, then reviewed and refined before printing. This is what lets us ship in days rather than weeks and keep the price accessible. The materials (archival canvas, real wood frames) are physical and made with care.

Can I have more than one pet in a portrait?

Yes. We offer single-pet, two-pet, and three-pet portraits. For four or more pets, please reach out and we'll work with you through The Atelier.

What if I don't love it?

We offer one round of revisions on every order at no charge. If after revisions you're still unhappy, contact us within 30 days of receiving your portrait and we'll work with you toward a refund or replacement.

What sizes and frames are available?

Three sizes (small, medium, large) and three frame finishes (white, espresso, matte black). Exact dimensions are listed on each product page, with mockups in real interiors so you can see the scale before ordering.

Do you ship internationally?

We ship across the U.S. and Canada at standard rates. International orders are available on request through our customer support; please reach out before ordering for a shipping quote.

What is The Atelier?

The Atelier is our bespoke commission service for clients who want something further afield than the core collection. A portrait with a scene, a costume, or a personal reference unique to you and your pet. Pricing is custom; lead time is two weeks.
